About This Wine:

The 2006 growing season was most noted for its considerable heat spells in early summer, resulting in slower production by the vines. A cooling off in late July and early August to near perfect conditions lead to expected yields of superior quality, especially in the red varietals, which had ideal "hang time" fairly consistent climate during the final six to eight weeks on the vine. Overall, quality was very good, which will yield wines which are complex and well-structured.

Tasting Notes:

Capturing the essence of two classic varietals, this blend of 53% Cabernet Franc and 47% Merlot is exciting and powerful, offering rich black cherry and blackberry aromas complemented by notes of sweet bell pepper, anise and spice. Aged for 18 months in small French oak barrels, this wine has soft tannins and a velvet-like finish.

Winemaker Notes:

Our 2006 Cabernet Franc-Merlot was gently crushed and transferred to small stainless steel tanks for fermentation, during which time the wine was "pumped over" twice daily and allowed to macerate on the skins for an average of 15 days. The "free-run" wine was then moved by gravity to small 60 gallon French oak barrels for a period of 18 months allowing the individual lots to soften and develop complexity before final blending.

The ripe fruit flavors and full-bodied depth of our 2006 Cabernet Franc-Merlot make this wine the perfect accompaniment to a wide variety of rich foods including meat dishes and Italian dishes with tomato sauce.
